Pros: Small footprint, proper capacity for two people, quick cooking function for those times where you’re in a hurry.
Cons:
It does not store rice for more than 8-12 hours without the rice getting yellowed. We had a huge, ancient, dented, simple Zojirushi before getting the Sanyo that could hold the rice for at least two days before it yellowed. With the Sanyo, you’d better refrigerate any leftovers immediately.
After a year, the Sanyo fails to work. The last pot was a horrific rice paste with dry grains on the surface.
Overall:
It has a lot of software bells and whistles that do not help it make proper rice and apparently detract from that core ability. But hey, I like to use it to make rice on a daily basis, so if you want to use it to cook frozen bread dough or non-sticky rice with olive oil, go ahead and buy into the reviews here.

My old rice cooker splattered bubbling liquid onto the counter and, over time, was very messy. But this rice cooker is extremely clean, not even a drop touches the counter. It makes perfect rice and keeps it warm and ready to eat all day. I only have two small reservations which are so small that the cooker still gets a 5-star rating:
1. The measurements are for cooked rice, not raw rice. You have to use the special measuring cup to measure out the proper amount of rice. If you put in 1 cup of raw rice and fill the water level to the 1-cup mark the cooked rice will be very dry. It would be more logical to have all measurements pertaining to raw rice because that’s what you’re measuring.
2. You can’t replace the internal watch battery. You could access it by unscrewing the two screws that hold in the silver front plate and then unscrew the bottom base. But the watch battery seems to be welded or riveted into the battery holder. I guess that’s okay. When the battery goes dead in a few years it’ll probably be time to buy a new rice cooker anyway.
I love my rice cooker! The cooked rice is so good that sometimes I’ll just make rice and eat it plain with just a little soy sauce.

When my daughter took my Zojirushi rice cooker away to college I was hesitant to replace it with anything less than another Zojirushi. I have been pleasantly surprised to find the I now prefer my Sanyo cooker more than the Zojirushi. It cleans up easier and has a much thicker cooking pan. Rice comes out perfect every time.

It cooks rice perfectly, and keeps warm quite well. The rice, depending on the grain, does get a little too hard above 4 or 5 hours of the “keep warm” function, and inedibly so after 8 hours. When this happens, I just add a little water and press the cook button again. It will rehydrate the rice quickly (much faster than having to cook the rice from scratch) and automatically switch to the warm function.
I cook rice almost daily, and find that the cooking time and quality is above average. The interface is very easy to use, and does much to enhance the functionality and design of the machine.
I’ve had the cooker for a month now, and it’s still working as new.
Others have noted that it doesn’t come with a rice paddle holder, which may be a hassle to some, but doesn’t bother me in the slightest. The plastic paddle is textured such that the rice rarely hangs onto it. The paddle then can then be left directly on the countertop without leaving bits of gunky rice behind.
As a student, I have little time to prepare meals. I find that this rice cooker makes delicious meals in no time at all – like a pressure or slow cooker. I have also used it to make curried rice with vegetables and chicken. Just through it all in and let it cook.
I was going to go for the zojirushi 3.5 as this is the one my parents own and suggested, but I found this one cheaper and more good looking. And the rice is just as good! I would highly recommend this product to anyone choosing between these two models.
